Do You Need a Chiropractor?
Chiropractors, who are also called doctors of chiropractic, use a type of "hands-on" therapy called joint manipulation (or adjustment) as their core clinical procedure. Chiropractors often treat lower back pain and musculoskeletal conditions such as arthitris. Chiropractic treatments may be valuable for the relief of problems with the muscles, joints, bones, and connective tissues.
What Is Chiropractic? Chiropractic is a form of health care that focuses on the relationship between the body's structure, primarily of the spine, and function.
There are many conditions which can be the result of misaligned vertebrae or pinched nerve. Dr. Marr will evaluate your spinal health and diagnose your condition. A treatment plan will then be determined.
Chiropractic treatments can help you with:
- Neck, face, jaw, arm, and shoulder pain
- Mid-Back: rib, side and torso pain
- Lower back: any back, leg, ankle and foot pain, burning, numbness or neuropathy
- Hip and groin pain
- Headaches and migraine: Misaligned vertebrae of the spine puts pressure on nerves leading to and from the brain and may result in headaches. Spinal corrections help to position misaligned vertebrae, reduce the sensation of pressure around the skull, and reduce the stress.
Stress and Nervousness: There is a strong connection between stress and back pain. Whenever you become stressed, your body responds by increasing your blood pressure and heart rate, flooding your body with stress hormones and tightening up your muscles. With long hours of stress, your muscles become sore, weak and loaded with trigger points and can go into painful spasms.
The word "chiropractic" combines the Greek words cheir (hand) and praxis (action) and means "done by hand".
Chiropractic is an alternative medical system and takes a different approach from conventional medicine in diagnosing, classifying, and treating medical problems. What Do Chiropractors Do In Treating Patients?
If you become a chiropractic patient, during your initial visit the chiropractor will take your health history. He will perform a physical examination, with special emphasis on the spine, and possibly other examinations or tests such as x-rays. If he determines that you are an appropriate candidate for chiropractic therapy, he will develop a treatment plan.
When the chiropractor treats you, he may perform one or more adjustments. An adjustment (also called a manipulation treatment) is a manual therapy, or therapy delivered by the hands. Given mainly to the spine, chiropractic adjustments involve applying a controlled, sudden force to a joint. They are done to increase the range and quality of motion in the area being treated.
